What does GRACE actually mean?

excerpt below, on GRACE

"...whole books have been written just about the word “grace.” One Greek lexicon gives the following definition for grace or charis:

The merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues.

Now, do you really think that the ancient Greeks had a word that meant all of that?"

Precis of: The Presence of the Future, by George Eldon Ladd

In 1964, when this book was published as Jesus and the Kingdom , George Eldon Ladd said, “There is a growing consensus in New Testament scholarship that the Kingdom of God is in some sense both present and future.” [1]     THE PRESENCE OF THE FUTURE The Eschatology of Biblical Realism   If the Kingdom of God is defined as an eschatological redemption realm of the age to come, and we know that Jesus proclaimed that this new age was imminent, then we have insuperable difficulties. Alternatively, if the Kingdom of God is defined as an experience in the human heart, then all that Jesus said about it as being imminent etc can be sloughed off as notions that he shared with Jews, which have nothing to do with his message. But, If, however, the Kingdom is the reign of God, not merely in the human heart but dynamically active in the person of Jesus and in human history, then it becomes possible to understand how the Kingdom of God can be present and futu...

What the early church believed about SALVATION

The following is a precis of David Bercot’s book, WHAT THE EARLY CHURCH BELIEVED ABOUT SALVATION   WHY SHOULD WE CARE WHAT THE EARLY CHRISTIANS BELIEVED?             We pay attention to what the early church believed because it can impact our eternity. [1] By early church, is meant, pre-Nicaea. The early Christian era ended at the Council of Nicaea because after that, church and state merged. The church moved from a focus on lifestyle to a focus on theology as “theologians and church councils begin creating new defined doctrines that all Christians had to subscribe to or face state persecution.” [2] The point is that we would like to hear what people believed who received the truth firsthand from the disciples of the apostles in the first hundred years after the last apostle died. [3] WE ARE SAVED BY FAITH ALONE – RIGHT?             Most people have gr...

I will utter things kept secret

Deeper Study of Matthew 13:35 After Jesus had spoken in parables to the multitudes, he says that he did so, "That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,  I will open my mouth in parables ; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world" (Matt. 13:35). Jesus is quoting Psalm 78:2 which says, "I will open my mouth in parables:  I will utter things which have been kept secret ." I WILL UTTER THINGS KEPT SECRET The mystery will be made known "I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp." (Psa 49:4 KJV)   New things will be declared even before they happen "Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them." (Isa 42:9 KJV)   His secrets will be revealed "Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." (Amo 3:7 KJV) ...
